Central Prison and Correction Home are situated in Thrissur, Kerala. Being one of the three central jails of the state, besides Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur, it is one of the most important detention centres. The prison is divided into two parts, namely special jail and sub-jail meant for long-term and short-term convicts, respectively.
The prison premises originally occupied 1000 acres. Nevertheless, as several state establishments were constructed here, the area of the prison reduced to 147 acres, out of which 17 acres is dedicated to the central jail and the rest to other prison facilities.
