One of the most famous falls in North-East India, Elephant falls gets its name from an elephant-shaped rock at the side of the fall. The fall is in three layers, and each layer is accessible through different vantage points. The first layer is situated amongst dense trees, the second fall amounts up to a thin string of water which is almost invisible in the winters, and the third fall is the most visible one with crystal clear water flowing like a sheet of milk on the dark rocks.
Elephant falls is one of the most visited checkpoints by tourists before they head out to explore other points of Meghalaya. It is located 12 kilometres away from the capital of Shillong and boasts on its scenic beauty and tranquillity.
