More about Faneuil Hall, Boston and Historical Information
Considered as a site of speeches and meetings, Faneuil Hall was opened in 1743 and was graced with many independent leaders. Now a part of Boston National Historical Park, the hall is often referred to as The Cradle of Liberty. Faneuil Hall was rated number 4 in America’s 25 Most Visited Tourist Sites by Forbes Traveller.
The hall was built by Peter Faneuil, a slave merchant after the town had discussed the erection of a public market for years. Faneuil built the hall as a gift to the town. The hall was burned down in 1761 and rebuilt the next year.
