India has a number of National Parks dotting its immense expanse. Of these, there is the Great Himalayan National Park or GHNP in brief. The park; that was built in 1984, is located in Kullu region in Himachal Pradesh state. It is habitat to numerous flora and fauna, and is spread over an area measuring 1,171km. The area is protected by laws enacted in 1972 to protect wildlife. Any form of hunting in the park is prohibited. The park was added to the UNESCO list as World Heritage Site in 2014 after it was discovered to be of exceptional natural beauty.
GHNP has plenty of fantastic natural features that have awed many individuals for years. There are the emerald meadows with distinct flora over a huge expanse of land, lush coniferous forests, pristine glaciers and soaring snowy mountain peaks. Two secluded valleys; Sainj and Tirthan, are home to plenty of animals like bharal, serow, goral, brown bear and snow leopard. The Himalayas also boasts of the tallest and smallest mountains in the world with snow peaks. At the base are rivers originating from glaciers. There are a number of trees that have been used over the years for medicinal purposes. The Great Himalayan National Park is a true wonder worth one’s time and resources.
