Lal Bagh is a world famous garden located in the southern region of Bangalore. The construction of the garden was initiated by Hyder Ali who was the ruler of Mysore. The construction however remained incomplete till his son Tipu Sultan got the garden completed in Mughal garden style. Along with a beautiful display of tropical plants, the garden has a magnificent aquarium and a lake. The garden hosts over one thousand different types of flowers and trees.
The garden, spread over an area of 240 acre, is a popular tourist spot and is open for public every day. You can visit the garden from 6 AM to 7 PM any day of the year. The entry is free for morning walkers and evening walkers from 6 AM to 9 AM and 6 PM to 7 PM. The garden hosts a grand flower show in the week of Independence Day and the Republic Day. On every second Saturday and Sunday of each month Janapada Jaatre is organized in the Lal Bagh where local artists perform.
Lal Bagh can be reached easily by Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses which run from Kempegowda Bus Station or Shivaji Nagar. Buses going towards Jayanagar and Banashankari areas can also be taken to reach the Lal Bagh.
