Located on the National Mall in Washington, DC, the Lincoln Memorial honors the 16th U.S. President, Abraham Lincoln. The memorial is designed in Greek Doric temple style, containing a large, seated statue of Lincoln, interior murals, and inscriptions of two of Lincoln’s famous speeches.
The largest of numerous pools in the National Mall, the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool islong and rectangular in shape. The pool is situated near the Lincoln Memorial, with the Washington Monument east of the pool itself. The reflecting pool, an iconic image of the District, hosts many of the city’s some 24 million tourists annually.
Despite the current construction, the reflecting pool is still an attractive tourist site. The pool boasts walking paths and is lined by shade trees on either side. The reflecting pool is particularly renowned for its dramatic, National Mall reflections. Depending on one’s vantage point, the pool reflects the Lincoln Memorial, the sky, or the Washington Monument.
