Namdapha National Park, Changlang. Important visiting information
More about Namdapha National Park, Changlang and Historical Information
The Namdapha National Park happens to be one of the largest protected areas around the Eastern Himalayan hotspot. In terms of its occupied area, the place also boasts of being the third largest national park of India. Being one of India’s richest areas in terms of biodiversity, the Namdapha National Park happens to be one of the major tourist attractions of Northeast India. The area is well renowned for its dipterocarp forests, which includes some parts of the ecoregion belonging to the Mizoram-Manipur-Kachin rain forests. Namdapha was initially declared to be a Wildlife Sanctuary during 1972. Later, in 1983, it was transformed into a National Park, gradually becoming a Tiger Reserve during that same year. The name of the Park is derived from two different Singpho words, "Nam" which means ’forest’ while "dapha" denotes ’keeping’, together with forms Namdapha, which defines the importance of preserving the forest so that no one cuts it down. Summers are generally the most comfortable season for visiting Namdapha, as the rainforest blocks most of the sunlight from entering its interiors. Winters can be harsh in this part of the world, as Arunachal Pradesh witnesses heavy snowfall during the season. The park is known to be the home of snow leopards. You may get lucky and see one of those during your trip.
