Situated in the Pelling region of Sikkim, Pemayangtse is a highly cherished Buddhist monastery. Marking its name as one of the oldest monasteries of the state, it stands tall on a hilltop with the historical Rabdentse ruins in the backdrop. The meaning of Pemayangtse is ‘perfect, sublime lotus’ and is known for representing one of the four networks of nerves in the human body.
The monastery was completed in 1705 and since then has served as a part of the Buddhist pilgrimage circuit in Sikkim. It also serves as the starting point of popular Dzongri trek route.
