More about Sela Pass, Tawang and Historical Information
The Sela Pass is more commonly known as ’Se La’. The term ’La’ denotes ’Pass’ by itself. The picturesque high-altitude mountain pass is situated near the border of Tawang & West Kameng Districts in Arunachal Pradesh. It stands about 4170 meters of 13,700 ft high above the sea level and acts as a connector between the Tibetan town of Tawang and Guwahati of Assam. The pass is responsible for connecting the main road of Tawang with the rest parts of India. The pass is known for its heavy snowfall, as the area is covered with snow for almost throughout the year, naturally restricting sufficient vegetation. Sela Lake, which is located nearby the pass, is among the 101 lakes around the area, considered to be sacred according to Tibetan Buddhism. The Sela Pass is renowned for the heavy snowfall it experiences during winters. The place is open for tourists throughout the year unless there are any sudden landslides that might force the government authority to shut down the pass for a temporary period. So you may wish to visit the area during summers, as the sun doesn’t torture your skin and snow doesn’t put a limitation on your travel experience. Beautiful scenery awaits your presence. Do not miss it.
