Located in Lake Buna Vista, Florida, the Walt Disney World Resort, or simply Disney World, is the most-visited entertainment resort worldwide. Covering over 30,000 acres, Disney World houses 23 themed hotels, two water parks, four amusement parks, a campground, and numerous spas and fitness centers, among other entertainment venues.
Disney World opened the Magic Kingdom theme park in 1971. Today, the resort now includes Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios. Icon Walt Disney conceptualized Disney World, hoping that thisEast Coast resort would supplement Disneyland in California. Differing from Disneyland’s one-day visit, Walt envisioned Disney World as a prime vacation destination with more entertainment, themed hotels, and a wider range of recreational activities.
The Magic Kingdom park is the most-visited of Disney World’s theme parks, hosting 17 million visitors in 2010. The park boasts Cinderella’s Castle, an iconic structure. In addition to theme parks, however, the Disney World Resort includes five renowned golf courses.
