Vishansar Lake
The Vishansar Lake in Sonmarg is situated at an altitude of the 3710 m above sea level. In the winter months, the lake is frozen and during the summer months, the scenic beauty offered by the area is par excellence. The lake is surrounded by the lush green meadows and the visitors come to the area to watch this majestic sight. The Lake can be reached via the Nichinai Pass which is also a tourist attraction spot. The months June to September serves as the ideal time to visit the Lake which also is a home to a variety of fish. The lake has a width of 600 m and length of 1km. The Lake holds immense importance for the Hindus because in the Kashmiri dialect, Vishansar means Lake of Lord Vishnu. The lake is the source of the River Neelum and is fed by several glaciers and Krishnasar Lake.
