More about Wah Umngot River, Dawki, Dawki and Historical Information
The Umngot River is also known as Wah Umngot and the Dawki River. It flows through Dawki, a small town at the foot of the Jaintia Hills, in West Jaintia Hills, in the Indian state of Meghalaya. Local anglers use the Umngot as a fishing spot, making it one of India’s most clean rivers. The border between India and Bangladesh is located on the Umngot. A white section of the river results from a rise in current. Fishers populate the river. The Umngot River is spanned by a suspension bridge called the Dawki Bridge. It was built in 1932 and is an important tourist attraction. Due to the lack of electricity, the Meghalaya government decided to make a dam along the river in April 2021.
