The Indira Gandhi Planetarium Patna was built through Bihar Council on Science & Technology. This is one of the major tourist’s attractions and many foreign visitors also visit this planetarium which is one of the largest planetariums in Asia. Several exhibitions are held in this planetarium. There are also film shows on astronomy. This planetarium does not use modern projectors. It makes use of opto mechanical projection of celluloid film. This makes it difficult to change the film and one may have use the same film for many years.

The auditorium is really very good and this place has all the state of art facilities. The main hall has a capacity of seating 276 people at a time. The planetarium has a dome shaped screen. On this screen the visitors can view movies of celestial bodies. It gives a feeling to the visitors that they are actually seeing the sky in its full glory. They have surrounded sound system and the sound quality is very good. It is also possible to hold seminars and workshops in this planetarium. There is a separate place for the same. Several workshops and large events are held here on a regular basis.
