More about Salim Singh Ki Haveli, Jaisalmer and Historical Information
Located in the centre of the land of the Golden Fort. It was built over the remains of an older haveli in the 19th century and was commissioned by the prime minister of that time, Salim Singh. The Haveli is also sometimes referred to Jahaz Mahal because of its front facet resembling a ship. The Haveli is over 300 years old and is built with iron rods instead of cement and mortar.
Famous for its architectural style, the Haveli has 38 intricately carved balconies topped with pale-blue cupolas, with each one having a distinctive style. The Haveli was later on occupied by the most influential Mehta family of Jaisalmer.
